Program Description:

This Skate Canada Learn-to-skate program is specially designed for beginners who are 3-5 years of age. Fun and continuous movement is the focus while learning basic skating skills such as balance, skating forwards, backwards, and stopping. Lessons are led by NCCP certified professional coaches and assisted by qualified Program Assistants. Progression to the CanSkate program is encour on the Coach's recommendation. Helmets are mandatory. Skate Canada and the Niagara-on-the-Lake Skating Club require all Pre-School participants to wear a CSA approved hockey helmet.

Parent/Guardians of Pre and CanSkate skaters must remain at the arena during lesson time for their children's safety and most of all your encouragement. A large bulletin board is at the information table every Pre and CanSkate session. Please review the board weekly for upcoming eents, ice cancellations or changes. Make sure you check the calendar given to you at registration for club activities and other updates.

Please note that there will be a session on Sunday, March 24, 2018 in place of Saturday, March 23, 2018 due to a Hockey Tournament at the arena.  Times for this session will be communicated.  This would make 24 sessions.

Our Annual Showcase is on Sunday, March 31, 2019 and participation for your skater is included with this registration. More details to follow in January 2019.

Program Description:

This Skate Canada flagship Learn-to-skate program is specially designed for beginners of all ages to develop a variety of skating skills. The CanSkate program focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. It is beneficial to any skater with an interest in ice sports (figure skating, hockey, ringette). Skaters are grouped according to ability and taught by NCCP certified professional Skate Canada coaches assisted by qualified Program Assistants. Skaters develop forward and backward skating skills, stopping, turning, jumping, edges and crosscuts. Badges are awarded when all skills have been achieved. Coaches make the sessions active using teaching aids, music and a variety of theme and fun days held throughout the season. Helmets are mandatory. Skate Canada and the Niagara-on-the-Lake Skating Club require that all CanSkate participants wear a CSA approved hockey helmet on all sessions.
